Combat the Cold- Dress Well

It seems that the key to enjoying your times outside is to dress properly.  Though wrapping up in a padded coat with a balaclava and boots up to your knees may be over doing it a bit, it is on the right track.  If you dress to accommodate for the conditions then you will have a far better time outdoors.  So for rain you are looking at waterproofing, for frost you are looking at thermal wear.

Winter is the time when people put on weight; all because those fun outdoors activities do not seem as much fun in the gloomy cold.  Finding the motivation to get out there on your bike goes out the window at the first sign of a cloud.  This shouldn’t be the case however, because quite often once you are outdoors it is quite pleasant.  It is like when you are a kid, and you look outside to see the snow, so you run out to play and within minutes you are cold and wet with water in your shoes.

The difference is that when you go cycling you have to add in a few more factors.  Your cycling gear should ideally protect you from injury with padding and durable materials.  The clothing should be unrestrictive so that you are not fighting the clothing to move, and it should also protect you from the weather.  This goes for all weathers.  You should have shades and eye protectors for the sun and flying gravel and dust.  You should have waterproof clothing for those rainy days, and warm heat retaining clothing for the cold days.  Your cycling gloves should offer a mixture of grip, padding and heat retention, as should your shoes ideally.

A lot of cyclists will cycle during the winter to keep their physical fitness levels up and lay the endurance foundations for the coming year, so that they may cycle more in the warmer months without becoming uncomfortable.

If you have trouble motivating yourself during the colder months, and it will take more than a good coat and cycling gloves to convince you, then why not try caffeine.  A cup of strong coffee or a Red Bull can help you regain your pep so that you can get out there and start cycling.  Quite often it is just the getting outside and on your bike that is the hardest bit.  Once you are up and cycling, you often find yourself having more fun than you expected.  Obviously, if you have to rely on caffeine to get you on your cycle more often, then maybe try another means of transport or hobby.  Don’t forget to take a few calcium supplements if you are using caffeine as it depletes your calcium levels, and get outdoors and have some fun.

How to Choose Unique Gifts

When it comes to unique or funny gifts, you can really show the person that you have put in some extra effort into choosing the perfect gift.  However, it is important that you know the person really well if you are planning to buy funny gifts.  You need to be sure they will appreciated the gift and that they will not be likely to take offence.

There are plenty of great deals that you can go for but they do not necessarily have to be funny unless of course that you particularly want them to be.  Remember that not everyone has the same sense of humour and what you find hilarious might not be so funny to everyone else.  It is better to focus more on unique gifts than on humorous gifts unless you are positive that the gift will be well received.  The following are a few tips which will help you to choose correctly when it comes to unique gifts.

Think about what unique means to you and then consider what it means for the person you are buying the gift for.  You really need to think about the gift and whether the recipient is going to consider it unique or maybe a bit sad.  You can probably go for something a bit more unique if you are very close to the person but otherwise try and tone it down a bit.

Think about experiences that the two of you have had previously and buy something that will remind him or her of that.  This is a great idea for buying unique or funny gifts.

You could also buy a gift that is going to signify an event that you are going to experience together in the future such as a special trip or something similar.

Think about a gift that has something to do with something that person has always wanted to do such as bungee jumping or a trip to Kenya for example.

If you want someone to appreciate the gift you have bought them, then think long and hard about their personality and what you think will appeal to them.

Choosing a Theme for Your Nursery

If you are expecting your first child then you are probably going to want to decorate your baby’s room. You will probably be a bit confused as to what kind of theme to choose especially as there is so much choice available these days. There are many different themes available these days from teddy bears, to fairies, to rubber ducks and flowers. What you choose is entirely up to you and once you have chosen your theme, you will find that there are many places to buy the items that you want.

Choose a Theme

If you know what you are having then it makes it easier to choose a theme but there are plenty of themes available these days that will suit both boys and girls such as the rubber ducks, clowns or teddy bears for example. If you know that you are having a boy then you will find plenty of ideas in your local baby store or online. There are so many places where you can buy the items you need, such as cribs or wall coverings, in themes such as cars, or trucks. If you are having a girl then you might want to look for a theme of flowers, fairies or butterflies.

There are many popular children’s characters and you can buy a range of nursery items with these themes such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse or the Winnie the Pooh characters for example. These items will come in brightly coloured designs and you can buy curtains, wallpaper, bedding and giant stickers to put on the walls of the nursery if you want.

Look Online

You can buy numerous items for your baby’s nursery and choosing a theme will just help to make it easier for you. This is an exciting time in your life so it makes sense to choose wisely so that you will be happy with the overall look of your nursery. If you want to get the best deals on items for your nursery then you should probably look online. There are many different online retailers selling a host of nursery items at affordable prices which may be perfect for your little one’s first room. However if you have chosen a rubber ducks theme for example then keep this in mind when you start looking as you are going to see a number of fabulous items for sale and you may end up changing your mind a few times. If you keep your chosen theme in your head when searching then you can eliminate items that don’t fit in with your theme.

Successful Office Management

As an Office Manager, your job is to make sure that the administration and general running of the office is flawless. The staff looks to you to protect them from a shortage in office supplies, jammed photocopiers and a variety of other evils that may occur in the course of any work day.

The first of your priorities is to make sure that everybody has the stationery that they need in order to be able to do their jobs. You have to work within a budget and therefore you will be inclined to favour cheap office supplies over the more expensive brands.

Your next task is to choose the correct office equipment. This includes photocopiers, printers, fax machines etc. For this you’ll have to work closely with the IT department to ensure that the equipment meets the compliance standards of the computers and software that has been installed. Here too you will look for the best deal that will suit your budget.

Next on your agenda is to hire the office support staff. These could include a driver, a tea lade cum cleaner and a receptionist. You will also be required to train them into doing their jobs well and then supervise them as their performance increases. If there are any complaints about their performance you will be expected to sort out the issues that have arisen.

In addition to all this, you may also be required to handle day-to-day tasks such as summoning couriers, preparing the boardroom for meetings, arranging snacks for meetings, ordering lunches for the staff and doing mass photocopying for projects. Your performance will be measured according to how well you handle all the tasks assigned to you.

Occasionally you may need to arrange a special function outside of the office. This could be for a birthday celebration, the launch of a new product, Christmas / year end party, entertaining clients etc. You need to start and maintain a database of good establishments that you can use for these functions. It will be wise to negotiate favourable tariffs with these places so that you can maximise your budget for these functions.

Finally you may be expected to do travel arrangements for staff or clients / other visitors. You will need to book flights, reserve taxis, send out directions to their hotel / the office and make sure that their meals are paid for. This could be rather taxing as people often need to change their travelling plans to keep up with changing deadlines and other schedule changes. It is therefore best to book changeable flights and other transport.

Although it’s a busy portfolio, Office Management is a very rewarding career to follow.

Un-Spam Your Business

Is your business a target for cold calls, pranksters and general harassment? Is the phone company offering next to no support on this issue, leaving you feeling helpless to do anything? Do not fear; there are some things you can do to help mitigate the problem. Although not a full proof solution, these helpful tips should help to alleviate the pain caused by hecklers and spammers, leaving you more time to focus on the important things, such as running a business.

Here are a few helpful tips to mitigate the effects of spammers and pranksters to help you get your focus back on business, they worked for the people I have talked to and they should help for you. For starters, get yourself an unlisted number, also known as a private number. This should stop cold calls and telemarketers in their tracks as they will not be able to grab your number out of the public phone listings, so say goodbye to those annoying sales calls! Another helpful tip, although a risky one for business exposure, is to remove your listing in the business directory if you are listed in there. This can be risky if you do not already have a large customer base, but if you do, this will also help stop telemarketers and pranksters, and can be a huge relief.

Another good solution is to get a phone that supports caller ID. This way you can see the numbers, and in some cases the names, of people who are calling up. After you have this system in place, you can start to take notes of the troublesome numbers and simply ignore them or hang up straight away next time they call. Or if your phone supports is you can set it to automatically terminate those callers. After a while, they should get the message and stop calling you up. Or if it is a cold calling system, it will probably stop attempting your number permanently due to the constant failed call attempts.

So if you have had enough of pesky telemarketers trying to sell you a new phone plan, cold calls informing you of great new deals, or pranksters wasting your staff’s time, then I highly recommend you implement at least one of my suggestions above. Be it removing your number from the business directory, implementing caller ID or getting yourself an unlisted number, you should notice a near immediate reduction in the number of these pointless phone calls. So stop the hassle today and improve your businesses time and efficiency by ending these annoyances and take on my suggestions today.

What Is a Bailey Dump Valve?

A dump valve is used in performance vehicles (vehicles that have a turbo functionality) to ‘blow off’ excess boost pressure when working through the gears. They have been around since the 1980’s and, as cars have advanced, have advanced to keep up with new trends. They have also become more sophisticated in order to keep up with the development of new cars, engines and boost systems.

Bailey dump valves are generally non-return valves to reduce damage that could be caused by over-boosting. The functionality of a dump valve is to prevent back pressure of boost that would bend valves and blow heads which in turn could cause severe damage to the car’s engine.

How does it work? It follows the simple principles of boost and release. This means that once the engine gets to its boost pressure it has to somehow release that pressure in order to reduce the revolutions that it runs at – meaning that it is necessary to change gears. The dump valve therefore works during the process of changing gears.

Furthermore bailey dump valves also help with the breaking system of a vehicle. This means that the turbo uses vacuum pressure to boost the engine, reducing the vehicles ability to brakes. The cause for the inability to break is the fact that the turbo sucks the vacuum out of the brake booster. Therefore the dump valve re-introduces the vacuum into the brake booster, allowing you to brake.

Dump valves are only used in vehicles that have a boost pressure of more than 1 bar. Boosting more than 1 bar means that you will need more sophisticated spare parts in your vehicle. These include high-pressure tubing, high-pressure petrol pumps, bigger fuel injectors, ceramic coated pistons etc.

The downside of a dump valve is that it has a limited lifespan. Over-boosting a dump valve will cause the valve’s diaphragm to disintegrate, causing the engine to cease or blowing the turbo resulting in huge repair costs.

This means that you need to service and clean your dump valve on a regular basis. Maintaining your dump valve requires regular lubrication and regular inspection of the diaphragm. You need to also check for leaks on the feed and return pipes, making sure that the turbo oil valve is open and not blocked. You also need to make sure that the dump valve isn’t near an excessive heat source that could damage or perish any rubber parts including the o-rings and springs.

Overheating will cause the spring to collapse and the dump valve to leak which will significantly reduce the performance of the valve and therefore the vehicle.

It is therefore wise to maintain your dump valve.
